GRADE 11 · MAKE THE CONNECTIONS

Grade 11 Accounting support

You already know many of the terms. The challenge now is to read more information together, investigate differences and check your answers.

Tell me what you need

Find the reason for a difference.

When two records disagree, calculating the difference is only the start. Ask whether an item is missing, recorded incorrectly or simply appears at a different time. Bank charges shown on a bank statement but not yet recorded in the business’s books are a useful example: the books need to reflect the charge too.

Read adjustments as a story.

For each adjustment, write down what has already been recorded and what still needs to change. Notice which period an amount relates to. When reading about a prepayment, for example, ask which part belongs to the current period. This step helps prevent counting the same amount twice.

Keep an error log.

Separate your errors into concept, reading and calculation mistakes. Then choose the right practice: revisit the principle for a concept error, underline key words for a reading error, or show more intermediate steps for a calculation error. Use your school’s work plan to choose this week’s focus.

Questions about this grade

What should I do first with a reconciliation difference?

Compare the records item by item. Ask whether an entry is missing, recorded incorrectly or appears at a different time. Avoid adding an amount simply to make the totals agree; identify the reason for the difference first.

How can I avoid counting an adjustment twice?

Write down what is already in the books and what still needs to change. Mark the period the amount relates to. Then calculate only the required change and check where it belongs in your answer.

How do I choose which grade 11 work to practise?

Use your school’s current work plan and recent feedback. Separate mistakes into understanding, reading and calculation, then choose a short exercise for the kind of error you make most often. Tell me which topic and step are causing difficulty.
